Markus Riva (Supernova 2017): It's always easier to give up, so I decided to fight!
2/04/2017Before Supernova 2017 kicks off I had the opportunity to have an interview with my favorite latvian Markus Riva!
As you all probably know, Markus was voted "Eurovision Hunk 2016"! Before anyone else we told him about his victory. This was his reaction when he found out ->
Markus: Wow! That is very cool! I could not be more honoured! Thanks to everyone who voted!
1. How does it feel, that you get so much support from so many countries? The Eurovision Fans really can't wait to have you at Eurovision!
Markus: It really feels good! Thanks to everyone for this support! I hope it is a good start of this year and I hope there is going to be a lot of Eurovision in my life, if you know what I mean. So I hope you will all support me at Supernova!
2. Since you first took part in Supernova, do you get this feeling of the Eurovision family? That everyone is in this together and you get much support from Eurovision fans?
Markus: I know, it is crazy! I am thankful to everyone for supporting me! And yeah, I haven’t made it to the big ESC yet unfortunately, but despite that, I feel that support and attention to my music and to the stuff that I am making. I love ESC and I think it is the best show that you can watch on TV every year!
3. This year you enter Supernova with "Dynamite" which already took the No. 1 spot on the latvian iTunes Charts earlier. How does it feel and what were your thoughts when you entered the song for Supernova 2017?
Markus: After last SUPERNOVA I thought a lot - should I try again. But I told to myself that it is always easier to give up, so I decided to fight. DYNAMITE is a fighting song, it is dramatic and emotional. I worked a lot on this track. But I am very happy that song was charting not only in Latvia, but also in Russia (which is much bigger market). But this year they are taking data from Spotify to add them to the results, so I think we all need to go to listen Dynamite on Spotify now :)
4. What has changed in your life since our last interview before Supernova 2016?
Markus: Well, there’s been ups and downs. But still I am working, making new music, performing in Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus. Doing lot of projects and trying to explore this world and living maximum. Time flies so fast so I don’t want to regret anything.
5. Who was your favorite back in Eurovision 2016?
Markus: I always love Swedish entries, I liked the charisma and song from France, of course the show from Russia. But in general, the whole show was just outstanding. That’s why ESC is the best produced thing on TV.
6. What are you doing before Supernova kicks off?
Markus: Rehearsals, rehearsals.. I got a bit sick so I need to get well ASAP. I had a video shooting in Kiev and it was so exhausting - 26 hours, and it was cold as well, so now having a day off to get back in shape really quickly.
7. How much do you work out?
Markus: I try to work out when I have time, but mostly it is 5/6 times in a week. I started to do yoga recently, but also of course doing regular gym stuff, running, boxing etc. And trying to stick to that healthy eating plan.
8. What do you want to say to our readers at ESCDiary.com?
Markus: Stay positive! And live the best life that you can live with no regrets! And of course, support DYNAMITE on Spotify! One play - one vote :) https://open.spotify.com/track/0MHgYPhHQIBRdG0sehFD6s
Thank you so much for taking the time again :)
Markus: Thank you so much! See you soon! Best wishes!! :)
